Working with internationally recognized visual effects studio, SPIN VFX, DI4D provided high fidelity facial performance capture services for a virtual reality (VR) project for the Syfy channel’s, ‘The Expanse’.
Based on the novels by James S. A. Corey, The Expanse is an American science fiction thriller set hundreds of years in the future, where mankind has colonized Mars and the outer asteroid belts.
Neishaw Ali, President & Executive Producer of SPIN VFX said-
“We required an on-location high quality facial performance capture service for The Expanse VR 360 Video and chose DI4D to do this. The 360 Video was developed as a spin-off to this popular TV seriesand allows the viewer to experience settings from the world of The Expanse in full 360-degree virtual reality.
Having previously worked with DI4D, we were confident their DI4D PRO System could deliver exactly what we were looking for - high fidelity facial data for this VR project and we weren’t disappointed.”
Colin Urquhart, CEO of Dimensional Imaging (DI4D) said-
“We were delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Neishaw and the SPIN VFX team on this VR project.
As far as I’m aware, this is the first time a high fidelity facial performance capture solution has been used on a VR project and we are honoured SPIN VFX chose our DI4D PRO System to deliver the high quality facial data they were looking for.
VR is huge right now and we are excited to be one of the first companies using high fidelity facial performance capture solutions within it.”
